Dr. Ong Wee Jun Receives Prestigious Merdeka Award Grant
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Assistant Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering on receiving the prestigious Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment, which allows him to pursue a short term collaborative programme at a globally renowned host institution for three (3) months. Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and Royal Patron of the Merdeka Award Trust, His Majesty Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, presented the Grant certificate to Dr. Ong and two other recipients on 3 December 2018 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
XMUM Signs MOU with Chaintope on University-Industry Cooperation
Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on university-industry cooperation with Chaintope Malaysia, one of the leading IT companies from Japan, to provide internships and employment opportunities for students and to establish win-win cooperation between both parties.The agreement was signed by Mr. Vincent Soh Chee Hong, Manager of Student Affairs (Career Services) of XMUM, and Mr. Junya Yoshizaki, Chaintope’s Chief Operating Officer. Software engineer Jimmy Tee from Chaintope witnessed the signing ceremony.
XMUM Students Excel in Simon Marais Mathematics Competition
Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) emerged as the Top Performer among all participating Malaysian universities in Simon Marais Mathematics Competition held on 13 October 2018. Simon Marais Mathematics Competition is a mathematics competition for undergraduate students in the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s competition attracted the participation of 50 universities from 10 countries, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.

There were many failures along the way, but Gary lived to tell his tale to XMUM students during Innovation Talk Series #2 on 18 December 2018.
XMUM Students Pitch Innovations to TusStar Incubator
On 14 December 2018, Ms. Han Wei, general manager of TusStar Incubator Shanghai, and Prof. Dr. Ren Rongwei from Sun Yat-sen Business School, Sun Yat-sen University China, had a sharing-and-coaching session at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). Organized by Office of Research and Innovation, the unique event aimed to nurture leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation among XMUM students.
3rd Nanying Cup Chinese Debate Competition Successfully Held at XMUM
3rd Nanying Cup Chinese Debate Competition successfully concluded at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on 23 December 2018. University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and XMUM (Team B) were crowned winner and first runner up respectively, while Qian Weiming from XMUM was announced as the Best Debater.The competition lasted two days: First round and semi-final on 22 December, and final on 23 December. All sessions were relayed live on Facebook.
