At my grandfather’s funeral, my uncle—a diving instructor—told me all about his adventures at sea. I sat on a peeling leather sofa, watching his video recordings of sharks and reefs as he told me the ocean needed us now more than ever before. In the silence of the seven days, with only my Additional Maths textbook offering its condolences, I felt a profound sense of belonging—that if I chose a different path, I would live the rest of my life haunted by my own reflection, wondering what could have been.

XMUM Student Teams Win Four Gold Awards at iNVENTX 2026
Four student teams from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) won Gold Awards at the iNVENTX Invention Competition on 2 July 2026.The competition was organized by Multimedia University, attracted more than 400 teams from local and international universities, bringing together researchers, academics, students, and innovators to showcase inventions and technological solutions with real-world applications.

Dr. Azmi Mohd Yusof from the School of Computing and Data Science, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), contributed to Semicon.VR, a virtual reality education project that won a Gold Medal at ITEX 2026.Held from 18 to 19 May 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, ITEX 2026 brought together innovators, researchers, universities, and industry representatives to showcase invention and technology projects.

XMUM Student Participate in IEEE Semiconductor Packaging Bootcamp
On 14 May 2026, a group of students from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), accompanied by Dr. Norhayati binti Mohd Zainee, participated in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Semiconductor Packaging Bootcamp held at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The half-day academic visit was organized in collaboration with the IEEE XMUM Student Branch, IEEE Electronics Packaging Society (EPS), IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS), and NXP Semiconductors Malaysia.
