Xiamen Buddy System Helps International Students Feel at Home
Some 80 international students from over 20 countries gathered for a sharing session on 7 March 2019, thanks to the Xiamen Buddy System (XBS), an organization initiated by Student Recruitment Office of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM).This first-ever XBS gathering aims to promote a vibrant exchange of ideas and a meaningful sharing of experiences, as well as to develop a buddy system where seniors will take the hands of freshmen as they navigate their way through an unfamiliar environment, and help them ready themselves for the new but exciting journey in a foreign land.
XMUM Undergraduate Student Publishes in Q1-Indexed Journal as First Author
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates second-year student Ren Yijie and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun, both from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, on their success in publishing the paper entitled “Interfacial engineering of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4)-based metal sulfide heterojunction photocatalysts for energy conversion: A review”, as first author and corresponding author, respectively.

On 28 February 2019, XMUM welcomed the guest speaker for the third speech of the Innovation Talk Series, Prof. Ma Fang, Dean and Founder of Taishan Management School (China). The talk gave XMUM students a captivating insight into how to design the allocation scheme of equity so that a long-term relationship of interest-sharing, destiny-sharing, and profit-sharing could be established among the founders, investors, and core employees.
XMUM Students Organize Mandarin Class for Non-Native Speakers
On 27 November 2018, the very first Mandarin class for students whose first language is not Chinese was launched at Xiamen University Malaysia, providing a convenient and systematic Mandarin-learning channel for all students who are interested to learn the language. Proposed and organized by the Student Association of Department of Chinese Studies, it becomes an important platform for students from the Programme to demonstrate their professional knowledge and to practise teaching skills learnt in the major core course “Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language”.

On February 27, 2019, the top management of 20 leading universities in China gathered at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) to learn about the latest development of the first oversea campus established by a renowned Chinese university and to explore the further direction of Chinese universities’ internationalization efforts.
