Robotics and Automation Engineering Students Visit AirAsia RedQ
On 21 November 2025, a group of 40 students from the Robotics and Automation Engineering Programme, School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (SAIR) of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) visited AirAsia RedQ accompanied by 4 academic staff members. The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Jian Ding, the Head of Robotics and Automation Programme.

This industrial visit was designed to immerse students in real-world aviation operations driven by digitalization and advanced technologies, enhancing their understanding of the integration of automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence into contemporary airline ecosystems. The activity aimed to strengthen industry readiness by bridging classroom knowledge with practical exposure, while also fostering opportunities for future collaboration between XMUM and AirAsia in engineering, technology, and robotics related initiatives.
A key highlight of the visit was the comprehensive tour of AirAsia RedQ, where students gained exclusive access to the operations and facilities used by AirAsia’s All Stars. This behind-the-scenes experience offers genuine insight into the operational culture, technological infrastructure, and the digital platforms of the organization that support the daily functions.
Q&A Session
Throughout the visit, students engaged directly with industry practitioners, gaining exposure to the multifaceted challenges within aviation operations and observing how technology enhances efficiency, safety, and innovation.
The visit concluded with an engaging Q&A session with AirAsia experts, giving students the opportunity to discuss technological solutions used in the industry, clarify technical concepts as well as explore professional pathways in aviation engineering and AI-driven operations.
