XMUM Students Organize Mandarin Class for Non-Native Speakers
On 27 November 2018, the very first Mandarin class for students whose first language is not Chinese was launched at Xiamen University Malaysia, providing a convenient and systematic Mandarin-learning channel for all students who are interested to learn the language. Proposed and organized by the Student Association of Department of Chinese Studies, it becomes an important platform for students from the Programme to demonstrate their professional knowledge and to practise teaching skills learnt in the major core course “Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language”.

On February 27, 2019, the top management of 20 leading universities in China gathered at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) to learn about the latest development of the first oversea campus established by a renowned Chinese university and to explore the further direction of Chinese universities’ internationalization efforts.
New Students Begin University Life with "A New Start"
On 23 and 24 February 2019, a new batch of about 200 students joined Xiamen University Malaysia and attended the orientation themed “A New Start”, a chance for them to meet new friends and gain a first taste of university life.
XMUM Students Rank Top 4 in Alliance Bank Eco-Biz Dream Project
A team of XMUM students ranked fourth among 150 entries from universities across Malaysia in the Alliance Bank Eco-Biz Dream Project competition, and took home an RM1000 prize on 9 January 2019. The event aims to inspire, enable and empower students to ideate and develop sustainable business ideas with a positive impact on the environment.
Dr. Ong Wee Jun Receives Prestigious Merdeka Award Grant
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Assistant Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering on receiving the prestigious Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment, which allows him to pursue a short term collaborative programme at a globally renowned host institution for three (3) months. Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and Royal Patron of the Merdeka Award Trust, His Majesty Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, presented the Grant certificate to Dr. Ong and two other recipients on 3 December 2018 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
XMUM Signs MOU with Chaintope on University-Industry Cooperation
Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on university-industry cooperation with Chaintope Malaysia, one of the leading IT companies from Japan, to provide internships and employment opportunities for students and to establish win-win cooperation between both parties.The agreement was signed by Mr. Vincent Soh Chee Hong, Manager of Student Affairs (Career Services) of XMUM, and Mr. Junya Yoshizaki, Chaintope’s Chief Operating Officer. Software engineer Jimmy Tee from Chaintope witnessed the signing ceremony.
