3 XMUM Faculty Members Receive 2019 MOE Research Fund

Research Management Centre congratulates Dr. Ng Kim Hoong from School of Chemical Engineering, Dr. Kelvin Ooi Jian Aun from School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Dr. Teoh Hong Wooi from China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences on receiving the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) 2019, awarded by the Ministry of Education (MOE) Malaysia. They are the second batch of successful FRGS applications submitted by Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) with a total allocated amount of RM 350,789.00.

AOGS Best Student Poster Award Won by XMUM Students

Research Management Center congratulates five XMUM undergraduate students from China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences, XMUM (Zhou Tianyu, Shao Zhibo, Lin Weihong, Chen Jiarui and Zhou Muzhi) for winning the Best Poster Award in the Ocean Sciences Section at the annual meeting of Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), which was held in Singapore from 28 July to 2 August 2019. The title of the poster is “Impacts of Relative Vorticity on Critical Latitude Effects on Internal Tides, Waves, and Mixing”.

The Open Ship Days on board Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee (R/V TKK) was successfully held at Boustead Cruise Center, Port Klang, Malaysia on 17 & 18 August. Organized by Xiamen University (XMU), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) and China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences (CAMS), this is the first time that a Chinese scientific research vessel opens to the Malaysian public free of charge.

His Honourable David Mabumba, Zambia’s Minister of General Education, visited Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on 8 August 2019. Accompanied by XMUM President Prof. Wang Ruifang, His Honourable was briefed about the development of XMUM and toured around the campus.During the visit, His Honourable David Mabumba inspected XMUM’s IT hub as well as several teaching and research laboratories of XMUM’s China-ASEAN College of Marine Science. He also met with representatives of Zambian students currently studying at XMUM and kindly inquired about their lives here at the university.

With the purposes of promoting students’ interests in mathematics and training more experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for Malaysia, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) has organized the first XMUM Mathematics Competition. This competition serves as a key platform to uncover students’ mathematical talents and encourage them to become mathematicians in the future.Held on 23 June 2019, the competition have attracted 258 students from 24 higher education institutions and high schools.
