Exchange Students Explore TCM Heritage and Innovation in Malaysia
From 14 to 15 November 2024, the XMUM School of Traditional Chinese Medicine hosted a two-day educational and cultural program for exchange students from Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The initiative provided an in-depth exploration of the historical legacy and modern innovations of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Malaysia.
On the first day, students toured the Historical Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Malaysia, gaining insights into the development of TCM in Southeast Asia and its influence on global healthcare practices. At the Malaysian Chinese Medical Association’s Chinese Medical Aid Department, they witnessed the seamless integration of traditional TCM methods with contemporary medical systems. Later, a visit to Tunku Abdul Rahman University College offered them access to a rich herbal specimen collection and a collaborative acupuncture workshop, fostering academic exchange and practical learning.
Day two focused on the intersection of TCM and biotechnology. The group visited ALPS, a leading biotechnology research and healthcare center, where they explored state-of-the-art facilities, including the Medical Laboratory and MyGenome. Engaging discussions with experts like Prof. Manickam Ravichandran and Dr. Tham Seng Kong highlighted advancements in stem cell research and the fusion of TCM with modern medicine, sparking dialogue on interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
