On 16 June and 7 July 2022, XMUM School of Energy and Chemical Engineering successfully hosted the National Materials Lecture Competition (MLC2022), an annual event allowing young university students and researchers, to showcase their presentation skills and share their knowledge on issues pertaining to materials to a diversified audience.

This year, Xiamen University Malaysia and Dr. Andrew Ng Kay Lup were appointed by the Institute of Materials Malaysia as the Host and the Organizing Chairperson for MLC2022. Recordings of the event can be accessed via the links below:

Organized by the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM) and the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining UK (IOM3 UK), each participant in this lecturer-based competition needs to deliver a 15-minute presentation related to Materials or Mineral Science and Engineering. The first prize winner at the university level will represent the university in the national competition, and the winner of the national level will progress to represent Malaysia in Young Persons' World Lecture Competition.

Beginning in the year 2014, MLC has been hosted by selected Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia on a rotational basis starting with Universiti Teknologi MARA for MLC2014, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for MLC2015, Universiti Malaya for MLC2016, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation for MLC2017, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for MLC 2018, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka for MLC2019, Universiti Putra Malaysia for MLC 2020 and Universiti Sains Malaysia for MLC 2021.
