Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon Selected for 2023 SUSI (Study of the U.S. Institutes) for Scholars Program
The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for being chosen as one of 18 global scholars by U.S. Institute and the U.S. Department of State, to participate in the 2023 SUSI (Study of the U.S. Institutes) for Scholars program.
His nomination came from the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia.
Under this program, Dr. Vincent will spend a four-week academic residency at the Institute for Training and Development (ITD) in Amherst and Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts, and a two-week integrated study tour in New York and Washington D.C.
He and fellow SUSI scholars will examine the interplay of climate change, U.S. business innovation, corporate regulation, entrepreneurship and economic theory. They will also explore key institutions and stakeholders in the U.S. economy and meet with diverse business leaders and small business owners.
SUSI for Scholars is an academic program aiming to provide foreign university faculty and other scholars the opportunity to deepen their understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. The ultimate goal of the event is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality of teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad.

Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon is an Associate Professor and Head of the PhD Programme at XMUM New Energy Science and Engineering Department. With a passion for sustainability, his research focuses on carbon footprint analysis, life cycle assessment, solid waste recycling, green township and building development, as well as AI-predictive analytics and optimization in climate change. Since joining XMUM in 2019, he has received several international awards, including the Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Scholars Program and YSEALI Academic Seminar Fellowship by the U.S. Department of State, CrossCulture Programme Fellowship by the German Federal Foreign Office, UNFCCC-GIR-CASTT Fellowship from U.N. Climate Change and GIR Korea, and First Prize of the Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development by the Global Development Network. He is the editorial board member and managing guest editor of several WoS and Scopus-indexed journals. He is also a Professional Technologist with the Malaysia Board of Technologists and a GreenRE Accredited Professional of the Real Estate & Housing Developers' Association Malaysia.
