Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon and NESE PhD Student Publish Review Paper in Energy (SCI Q1 Journal)
The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin and Phuang Zhen Xin from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for their recent review article published in Energy, an SCI Q1 journal with the latest impact factor of 8.857.
Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin is the first author of the article. The second author, Phuang Zhen Xin, is a PhD student at XMUM under the supervision of Dr. Vincent Woon. The review project is a joint collaboration with researchers from China, Malaysia, Poland, and the Czech Republic with a thermal process, power system, sustainable building, transportation, and solid waste research background.
The paper “Recent advances in urban green energy development towards carbon emissions neutrality” reviewed the state-of-art advances in green energy development in urban sectors, including energy management in industry, building and urban development, transportation, and resource recovery from waste. Recent research highlights the need to develop novel energy materials, increase the storage capacity and durability of battery cells, reduce the vulnerability of renewable energy sources, enhance the applicability of optimization modelling, and improve new energy research and engineering design. Various challenges and recommendations in environmental, economic and societal facets for green urban energy development to achieve carbon emissions neutrality are compiled, providing insights and enhancing practicality in the future research of green urban energy advances.

Exposure to a wide spectrum of recent innovations in green urban energy development has enriched my knowledge in urban planning with the ultimate goal of achieving carbon neutrality. Throughout the review project, I have the chance to explore research fields other than my own research interests and study the contribution of these research fields towards carbon emission mitigations. Aside from gaining additional knowledge, I sharpened my research and soft skills while working with the collaborators. I would like to express my gratitude towards my supervisor, Dr. Vincent and his international collaborators for giving me this opportunity to learn from them and broaden my research networking. Upon the publication of this review paper, I hope that readers will be able to know more about the recent development of urban green energy and the importance of urban green energy in carbon neutralization. |
