TNB Research Explores Collaboration with XMUM

On 30 August 2022, representatives from TNB Research (TNBR) visited Xiamen University Malaysia to discuss potential collaborative research opportunities with School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE), marking a significant step towards bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Visitors from TNBR include Ir. Dr. Ng Guat Peng (Head of Materials Engineering and Testing Unit, Generation and Environment Department), Ir. Dr. Looe Hui Mun (Head of Smart Grid Unit, Transmission and Distribution Department), Ir. Dr. Lim Mook Tzeng (Principal Researcher of Biomass, Plasma and Perovskite Technologies with the Renewable Energy and Green Technology Unit, Generation and Environment Department), Ts. Dr. Nor Anisa Arifin (Senior Researcher with the Materials Engineering and Testing Unit, Generation and Environment Department) and Ms. Kok Yu Hui (Researcher with Materials Engineering and Testing Unit, Generation and Environment Department).

XMUM representatives were Prof. Chen Binghui (Dean of SECE), Prof. Huang Nay Ming (Head of New Energy Science and Engineering), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun (Assistant Dean of Academic and International Relationship, Director of Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy and Catalysis Technology, CONNECT), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Swee Tiam (Assistant Dean of Research and Industrial Collaboration, Director of Kelip-kelip! Center of Excellence for Light Enabling Technologies), as well as 7 academic staff & a postdoctoral researcher.

After a sharing of research interests and expertise, mutual grounds were identified and discussed between TNBR and XMUM. The meeting ended with an exchange of tokens of appreciation before the TNBR researchers were brought to a laboratory tour.

It has been the in-house solution provider for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) since 1993 and has since embarked on various advanced research projects in positioning TNB to be an early adopter of promising technologies.
