Frequently Asked Questions
Generally, there are three types of collaborations:
i. Postgraduate Study Progression Pathways
A progression pathway indicates a collaboration with a partner university that defines the admission criteria to facilitate students' academic progress towards a postgraduate degree. Through this simplified pathway, students from our campus may progress into a postgraduate degree at the esteemed institution with certain privileges, such as a tuition fee discount or an exemption on the English language proficiency result.
ii. Study Abroad
This framework aims to provide opportunities for undergraduate students to broaden their academic experiences through student mobility. Under this framework, students will be able to study abroad for a semester or an academic year, and the majors are usually not subject-specific.
**Please keep in mind that not all partner universities provide postgraduate study progression pathways and study abroad, as some discussions with partner universities are still ongoing.
iii. Exchange Programme
An exchange programme enables undergraduate students to spend a semester or one academic year at a partner university while paying tuition fees to their home institution. Students remain enrolled at their home university but attend courses at the partner institution, with credits usually transferred upon their return. Exchange opportunities are often competitive and may be limited by quota, subject availability, and the terms agreed upon with each partner university.
For study abroad / exchange programmes, students will need to first fulfill the following general requirements to participate:
- Completed 1 year of undergraduate study at XMUM
- GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above
- Satisfied the English language requirement (depending on the requirements of each school)
Normally, students will apply for a postgraduate degree / study abroad programme with their latest official result slip and other documents depending on the requirements of the university (e.g., proof of English language proficiency, personal statement, recommendation letter, passport profile, etc.).
Different partner universities have different application methods. Some partner universities require students to apply through the Global Engagement and Partnerships Office, and some partner universities require students to directly apply through the online portal. Hence, should you be interested in applying to any of the programmes, you may contact the Global Engagement and Partnerships Office and they can guide you further.
Some of our partner universities do provide students with a tuition fee discount of up to 20% and you may check the details with the Global Engagement and Partnerships Office. In the meantime, you can always find scholarship or financial support information on the university's website and apply if you meet the requirements.
Under normal circumstances, universities usually require students to submit their bachelor’s degree certificate and final academic transcript upon matriculation into a postgraduate degree. However, some of our partner universities would be able to make you a conditional offer based on the required documents (e.g., letter of completion, official result slip, etc.) you submitted when applying.
Yes. You may still apply to any of the non-partner universities, but under normal circumstances, the university may not issue an offer to students if they do not have a bachelor’s degree certificate and final academic transcript. Students also may not get to enjoy certain privileges, such as a tuition fee discount or an exemption on the English language proficiency result.
