I chose Xiamen University Malaysia because of its well-maintained facilities and comfortable environment. The campus offers an ideal setting for academic and personal growth, with modern amenities that support both learning and student life.

One of the most memorable experiences for me was the university’s Gala Night. The event was elegant and created a joyful atmosphere, bringing together students and special guests. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the university community and celebrate in vibrant setting.

There slightly different between the university life that I imagined. In my imagination, my university lifestyle should be attending more club and society activities; however, it's not that true, I am not that active in those activity. However, I’m glad that one expectation was met, I’ve had the opportunity to meet many friends from different countries, just as I had hoped.

I expect to make more friends, participate in more activities, gain knowledge and experience, and continuously work on improving myself.

I chose XMUM because of its comprehensive AI programme. As China rapidly advances in the field of AI, surpassing many global competitors, I believed that studying a curriculum modeled after China’s education system would provide me with cutting-edge knowledge and skills.

Initially, I expected the majority of students to be from Malaysia, with a few representatives from China. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a large number of students not only from China but also from various other countries. This international environment has enriched my experience, offering me the chance to interact with and learn from people with diverse cultural perspectives.

Given the high number of international students, the expected language barriers have been challenging at times, with varying levels of language proficiency among students. As a result, I use Malay or English when speaking to Indonesian students, Mandarin with Chinese students, and English with students from Kazakhstan. I hope everything progresses smoothly throughout my university journey, from my studies and group assignments to events and social gatherings.

University life has indeed lived up to my expectations in many ways, especially in terms of independence and discipline. I anticipated that transitioning from high school would require a greater sense of self-management, and I was right. For instance, balancing coursework, deadlines, and extracurricular activities has taught me the importance of time management and responsibility.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by how supportive the community is here. I expected a more competitive atmosphere, but instead, I found that my peers and seniors are incredibly helpful and approachable. This collaborative spirit has made it easier to adapt to the challenges of university life.

The passion of my lecturers has also significantly enhanced my learning experience. Their enthusiasm for teaching and willingness to engage with us create an inspiring classroom environment. This encouragement not only makes the subjects more exciting but also motivates me to delve deeper into my studies. Together, these experiences have made my university journey particularly enriching and memorable.

What impressed me most was the Gala Night before the semester. The performances by the seniors were fantastic, but it was the cheering and applause from students that made me feel the energy and enthusiasm, as if I truly belonged to this big family in a foreign environment.

Most aspects of university life matched my expectations, but some exceeded them. I had hoped for friendly and professional lecturers, and this turned out to be true. After one class, I asked the lecturer about something that had just been covered. I felt nervous, worrying the lecturer might think I hadn’t been paying attention. However, the lecturer patiently went over everything again and even encouraged me to try solving it on my own.

I had initially expected university life to be dull, with only classes and meals. But at XMUM, there are plenty of extracurricular activities, and almost all my classmates are kind and genuine.

As the first and only overseas campus of a “985 university” from China, choosing XMUM has promised both an exotic and rewarding journey.

I must say that all the courses I’ve attended so far have been incredibly exciting and inspiring. The lecturers are encouraging and patient, constantly motivating me to delve deeper into English literature and the arts. One highlight was the subject briefing by our Head of Department, Dr. Song Jiayang, whose speech undeniably sparked my desire to learn and explore further.

Life at XMUM has not only met my expectations but exceeded them. I’ve enjoyed all the campus resources and am living the university life I always dreamed of, particularly with easy access to the gym and library. Additionally, I’m pleasantly surprised by the number of international friends I’ve made, which has made my experience even more exciting, thanks to the diverse cultural backgrounds around me.
