TCM Students Participate in Orthopedic Therapy Training Course in Johor
A total of 114 students from the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Xiamen University Malaysia participated in the First Lin’s Orthopedic Therapy Training Course, held from 13 to 14 December 2025 at the Millésimé Hotel, Johor.
The course featured several experienced specialists in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) orthopedics, who shared their clinical experience and provided systematic instruction on the theoretical foundations and clinical applications of Lin’s Orthopedic Therapy.
The training covered a wide range of essential orthopedic techniques in TCM, including fracture reduction, fracture fixation, hands-on plaster casting experience, tendon and muscle manipulation techniques (Tui Na), and spinal examination. The program combined theoretical lectures with live demonstrations and hands-on practice sessions, allowing participants to gain a practical understanding of the techniques.
During the practical sessions, the instructors provided detailed guidance on operational standards, technical precision, and clinical safety considerations. Common clinical issues were discussed through case-based explanations, enabling participants to strengthen their clinical reasoning and practical skills.
Wong Yong Jian, from 2025/02 intake, shared: "This experience was both refreshing and valuable. As the lesson progressed, it became increasingly engaging, especially seeing procedures like plaster wrapping and splint fixation for the first time. Under the patient guidance of the lecturers, we learned various techniques and gained a lot from the practical sessions."
Elaine Chia, a forth year undergraduate student, reflected: "This orthopedics class helped me understand the importance of dislocation reduction, fixation, and functional exercise. Experiencing the 'rolling technique' firsthand made its motion especially clear to me - it really felt like rolling a wheel. Traditional Chinese medicine is profound, and there is still much for me to explore through continuous learning and practice."
