Published on November 3, 2026

The IChemE Student Chapter of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) organised a one-day industrial visit to Malacca on 16 October 2026, bringing together 45 students accompanied by Dr. Kua Yin Leng from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE). The visit included CSC Steel Sdn Bhd and Mamee-Double Decker (M) Sdn Bhd in Ayer Keroh, providing students with valuable opportunities to connect chemical engineering principles with real-world industrial practices.

At CSC Steel, students gained insights into steel manufacturing processes, industrial operations, and workplace safety. The visit enabled them to appreciate how chemical engineering knowledge in material science and processing contributes to efficient and reliable manufacturing. The company also provided valuable insights into internship opportunities, helping students explore potential career pathways and gain practical industrial experience.

The visit continued at Mamee-Double Decker’s plant in Ayer Keroh, where students learned about food manufacturing operations, production processes, quality control, hygiene, and food safety. The experience highlighted the importance of product consistency, and quality assurance in the noodle-processing lines. Students also participated in a cup-noodle-making workshop, offering a closer look at selected stages of food product preparation and manufacturing.
