Solar Car Competition Fuels Students' Passion for Energy Science

A solar car competition was held at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on 27 March 2019, in which 6 groups of participants from New Energy and Sciences Programme (EGE) raced their mini solar-powered cars towards the finishing line.

This competition is a part of Energy Innovation Laboratory, a course offered to third year EGE students in February semester. Under the guidance of course facilitators, students in 3-person groups were required to design and build solar-powered mini electric cars capable of travelling a short distance.

This course not only aims at training students’ practical skills so that they can better apply knowledge to practice, but also wants to help them understand how to do an engineering project related to new energy and science. Participants learnt valuable lessons in building partnerships, fund raising and project implementation.
