The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Assoc. Prof. Dr Tan Jian Ping, Director of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Advancement and a Zero-Waste Economy (STARGAZE) from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), on being conferred the 2026 Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians (TOYM) Award for Scientific and Technological Development by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malaysia.

The award recognises outstanding young Malaysians for their leadership, innovation and meaningful contributions to society. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan has been actively involved in national-level research and sustainability initiatives, including serving as National Bioenergy Technical Advisor to the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), and as National Secretary of the Malaysian Academic Research on Palm Oil Sustainability (ARPOS) for the 2025–2027 term.

His national engagements also include membership in the Bio-Alliance for the Stability and Sustainability Cluster Committee on the National Food Security Policy under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), leading the biogenic carbon capture and utilisation consultancy for government-linked TNB Research, supporting strategic decarbonisation planning for Malaysia’s national power utility, and serving as a Council Member of Malaysian Bioscience Scholars (MBIOS).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan receives TOYM 2026 Award from YB Tuan Haji Mohd Hairi bin Mad Shah

The award was presented by YB Tuan Haji Mohd Hairi bin Mad Shah, Chairman of the Johor State Committee for Youth and Sports, Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives. Reflecting the TOYM 2026 theme, "One Nation, One Vision", YB Tuan Haji Mohd Hairi highlighted the importance of youth in contributing to Malaysia’s future and working together across differences in race, religion and background to build the nation.

Established in Malaysia in 1985 by JCI Malaysia, TOYM has, for more than four decades, recognised outstanding young Malaysians for their achievements and contributions to society.

During his award speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan thanked XMUM for its trust and supportive ecosystem, as well as the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) for the research funding that has empowered his team to pursue research and innovation.
