XMUM “Wows” Students with the Newly Launched MBA Programme
An MBA Preview session was held at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) on March 23, 2019 for prospective students to gain a better understanding of the newly launched programme.
This MBA programme, which is the first post-graduate programme provided by XMUM, is set to welcome its pioneer batch of students in April 2019.
“We want to ‘wow’ you (students) with the university, the courses and the lectures,” said Dr. Tee Keng Kok, the Director of XMUM MBA Centre.
Dr. Tee Keng Kok gave a welcome speech.
During the preview session, Dr. Tee Keng Kok introduced the core features of the MBA programme, as well as the career prospects of its graduates. Pointing out the competitive advantages of MBA graduates in the job market, Dr. Tee asked prospective students: “if you throw a stone at anywhere today, you will probably hit a degree holder, what sets you apart from others?”
According to Dr. Tee, one important feature of this programme is that it “is highly connected to XMU China”, which will expose students to the best of Chinese culture and allow them to familiarise themselves with the business environment in China.
He also talked about the unique structure of the programme, which will be an integration of formal, informal, and non-formal learning, allowing students to spend more time learning about the industry, meeting new friends and having an intimate contact with the business world.
Ms. Elizabeth Lim, the Manager of XMUM MBA Center, then shared the detailed course information of MBA programme, including the intake time, duration, tuition fee, scholarship and various study grant opportunity. It is worth mentioning that part-time MBA programme will be offered to those who prefer to work while studying, which can be completed in 20 months.
Some students shared their thoughts on the MBA programme afterwards.
“I fell in love with Xiamen University at first sight,” said Muzambli Markam, a government official who has already registered for the course, “even then I knew that I would only choose Xiamen University Malaysia to pursue my MBA. ”
While Lim Phei Yee, currently working in the finance industry, regards the programme as an opportunity for self-improvement and a stepping stone for working with China corporations’ branch institutions in Malaysia.
“There are many big China corporations in Malaysia, and being a graduate from XMUM would be an added advantage to my career development,” explained Lim Phei Yee.
After the sharing session, Dr. Yang Junjie from XMUM School of Economics and Management gave an informative talk on “How to Do Business in China”.

A tea party was held afterwards, for prospective students to network with each other, share their thoughts and explore potential opportunities.
