XMUM Student Teams Win Four Gold Awards at iNVENTX 2026
Four student teams from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) won Gold Awards at the iNVENTX Invention Competition on 2 July 2026.
The competition was organized by Multimedia University, attracted more than 400 teams from local and international universities, bringing together researchers, academics, students, and innovators to showcase inventions and technological solutions with real-world applications.
Representing XMUM, the four Gold Award-winning teams presented projects addressing challenges in healthcare, rehabilitation, environmental sustainability, and emergency response.
The first team, comprising Koh Ming Kai (AIT), Katherine Anjelie (SWE), and Michelle Nathasaya Martadi (SWE), presented “Futuristic Lower-Limb Exoskeleton: Integrating Adaptive Motion and Stability Mechanisms”. Developed using OpenGL with interactive animation, the project introduces a conceptual smart exoskeleton designed to support individuals with lower-limb weakness or those recovering from mild injuries.

Design:

The second team, consisting of Ang Yi Xuan (AIT) and Cui Wenqian (SWE), presented “Smart Medical Bed”. The project reimagines conventional hospital beds by integrating automation and artificial intelligence to improve patient care and healthcare efficiency, with proposed features such as intelligent monitoring, localization technologies, AI-assisted functions, and holographic display concepts.

Design:



The third team, comprising Wang Lin (CST) and Li Jiahao (SWE), presented “Oasis Spire – Zero Maintenance Humidity Adaptive Tropical Atmospheric Water Generator: The Future Source of Life”. Designed for tropical climates, the project proposes a domestic atmospheric water generator that uses thermoelectric cooling and UV-C sterilization to support sustainable water production with reduced maintenance.

Design:

The fourth team, consisting of Huang Yue Han (CST) and Lim Goon He (AIT), showcased the “All-Terrain Multi-Functional AI Firefighting Robot”. Designed for hazardous fire environments, the robot features a dual-track chassis, rotating turret, robotic arms, thermal imaging, optical cameras, LiDAR, and AI-driven navigation to support emergency response operations.

Design:

The students expressed their appreciation to Dr. Zamruthul Asykin Binti Amran, Dr. Mohammed N. M. Ali, Dr. Teh Jia Yew, and Dr. Burra Venkata Durga Kumar for their guidance and support throughout the projects.
