Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun & Team Featured on Small Frontispiece
The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Loh Jian Yiing, Yap Feng Ming, and Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE) and the Centre of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT) on their recent publication in Small, a peer-reviewed journal by Wiley (Q1, IF: 12.1). Their work was selected as the Frontispiece of the journal’s latest issue, highlighting its significance within the research community.
XMUM Ranked No. 1 in Malaysia by Nature Index
Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) has risen to the top of Malaysia's research landscape, securing the No. 1 position in the latest Nature Index ranking based on research output from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025.This significant achievement marks a major milestone in XMUM's pursuit of research excellence, moving up from second place in the previous cycle to become the top-ranked institution in Malaysia. The result highlights the University's continued progress in high-impact scientific research and the dedication of its academic community.
Chemical Engineering Students Visit ISF to Enhance Industry Understanding
On 23 May 2025, a group of 26 Chemical Engineering students from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) visited Intercontinental Specialty Fats (ISF) Sdn. Bhd. in Dengkil as part of the CME443 Oils and Fats Technology course. The visit was organised by the XMUM-IChemE Student Chapter and led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kua Yin Leng, the course convener.ISF Sdn. Bhd. is a company involved in the production of specialty fats and oils for the food industry. Established in 1980, it operates in more than 50 countries across six continents.
XMUM Hosts International Forum on Smart Traditional Chinese Medicine
On 14 June 2025, the WFCMS International Forum on Smart TCM and the 2025 Annual Conference of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS) Specialty Committee of Tongue Research was held at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). Co-organized by WFCMS and XMUM School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the event welcomed over 230 experts and scholars from China and Malaysia.
XMUM and MARDI Engage on Paddy Field Innovation
On 13 June 2025, a research delegation from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Jian Ping from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, visited the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) in Seberang Perai to explore potential collaboration in paddy field innovation and agricultural biotechnology.
TCM Students Explore Local Medicinal Plants in Field Visit with Herb Expert
On 5 June 2025, students from the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) programme at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr. Chep Lee Lu Siang, participated in a field learning visit to local herbal expert Mr. Haw Ming Hock. The visit involved students from the 2402 and 2404 intakes and focused on exploring local plant resources and their medicinal applications.
