XMUM Humanities Forum #2 - Global Huayu and Malaysia
By Lim Sau Pui, Coreen Tan Chuan Shian, student reporters of XMUM Chinese Studies ProgrammeOn Nov 15, 2017, well-known linguist Prof. Chew Cheng Hai from Singapore, invited by XMUM, gave a public talk on “GlobalHuayuand Malaysia” in the second XMUM Humanities Forum, a forum series held by the Chinese Studies programme.In this talk, Prof. Chew focused on issues relating to Chinese teaching and testing, as well as the mobilization of education resources in the Chinese Language field.
XMUM CSR PROJECT WITH SAW-Strive for Animals Welfare
A Live, Love, Woof! project was held on 25th November 2017. A total number of 34 students was having their project at Strive for Animals Welfare, Semenyih, Selangor under supervision of the project advisor of Community Service module, Ms. Norsafizar Mohd Noor.The objective of this project is to create awareness and spread the message of animal love and care. Since September, the students started to create the awareness and raise fund for their project. The students manage to collectedRM1675.65for this project.
XMUM Students Excel in International Mathematics Competition
Students from Xiamen University Malaysia achieved outstanding results in the Simon-Marais Mathematics Competition held in Oct 2017 and XMUM ranked top among the participating Malaysia universities in the “Best Universities with an Eligible Grouping (by country)”.Simon-Marais Mathematics Competition is an undergraduate mathematics competition for students from universities in the Asia-Pacific region, offering individual category and pairs category. This year, 459 students from 34 universities in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, etc. participated in the competition.

President visited Laos and Cambodia to Promote XMUM
The President of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), Prof. Wang Ruifang, visited Laos and Cambodia from 4 September to 8 September 2017. The purpose of the visit is to promote the awareness of XMUM, to facilitate academic exchange and cooperation with institutions in both countries, to attract high quality students, and to explore employment opportunities for XMUM graduates.
Second Phase of Campus Construction Kicks off
On 9th September 2017, the second-phase construction of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) officially started, signaling a new stage in the development of the campus.With an investment of RM 284 million, the first section of the second phase spans approximately 111,503 square meters and includes four student hostels, one canteen, one center for international academic exchanges, and one performance pavilion on the lake.
