NESE gathering brings staff and students together
The New Energy Science and Engineering (NESE) programme in XMUM has amassed more than 100 students over several intakes. On the evening of Dec 15, 2017, a gathering brought the NESE staff and students together, providing students a platform to learn about the research interests of the lecturers, in preparation for their final year projects.
XMUM staff team wins basketball match against Sinohydro
XMUM staff team defeated Sinohydro Group team by 42-32 in a basketball match on Dec 16, 2017. This is the first victory of the XMUM staff basketball team since its formation.For the fans of XMUM, this match was quite a thrill. Though XMUM team took a 10-4 lead in the first quarter, it was 6 points behind the Sinohydro team when the first half ended. The team finally took full control of the game in the last quarter by strengthening the press defense and gained points through steals, and won over Sinohydro at 42-32.
Media experts praise XMUM students for insightful thoughts on journalism
10 students from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) earned high praises from international media professionals for their insightful thoughts on media practices at Malaysia-Singapore Media Forum held in Singapore earlier this month.The students, from Programme of Journalism and Programme of Chinese Studies, were commended for their critical perspectives on the current media consumption trends, especially among the younger generation.
Associate Professor Dr Ricardo Baba is the Second Recipient of Yayasan Muhibah Tan Sri Fng Ah Seng’s Research Grant
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Associate Professor Dr Ricardo Baba of the School of Economics and Business, Xiamen University Malaysia, for the second recipient of Yayasan Muhibah Tan Sri Fng Ah Seng’s research grant. A mock cheque for RM30,000.00 was presented to Associate Professor Dr Baba by Tan Sri Dato’ Paduka Dr Fng Ah Seng JP, Chairman of the Foundation, on 8.12.2017.
Professor Dr Huang Nay Ming Received the 2016 Malaysia’s Rising Star Award
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Professor Dr Huang Nay Ming of the New Energy Science and Engineering Programme, Xiamen University Malaysia, on receiving the 2016 Malaysia’s Rising Star Award (MRSA), presented by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), in partnership with Clarivate Analytics. MRSA is awarded to a select group of influential Malaysian researchers for their significant contributions to global science.
XMUM Journalism Students Venture ‘Beyond the Classroom’ to The Star Headquarters
by Bernice KokStudents from the Journalism programme of Xiamen University Malaysia ventured out of campus on December 6, 2017, visiting The Star headquarters as a part of the programme’s “Beyond the Classroom” initiative.The second-year students organised this trip together with their lecturer of the course –Advanced News Writing – Dr. Siti Suriani Othman in order to expand their horizons and take a behind-the-scenes look at what happens in the news industry in Malaysia.
