Biography

Ir. Ts. Dr. Pakas A/L Gopal Samy is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and holds a PhD in Control Systems from the University of Malaya. He brings over 13 years of combined experience in academia and industry, specialising in Control Systems, Automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and Optimization.

Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (SAIR), Xiamen University Malaysia, Ir. Ts. Dr. Pakas is committed to advancing education and research at the intersection of AI and engineering. His academic journey has included leadership roles such as Associate Dean of Joint Faculty for Engineering, Deputy Head of Faculty, and Programme Leader, where he was instrumental in curriculum development, quality assurance, and strengthening industry-academia partnerships.

Ir. Ts. Dr. Pakas has actively contributed to the modernization of engineering education by aligning academic programs with evolving industry requirements and championing practical, project-based learning. He is known for creating inclusive learning environments that foster critical thinking, creativity, and innovation among students.

As a dedicated educator and mentor, he continues to guide students and colleagues in both research and academic excellence. He maintains active memberships with key professional bodies including the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), BEM, The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), and the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT).

His current focus is on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and delivering impactful research and teaching in areas such as intelligent control systems, robotics, and AI-driven optimization, contributing to the development of future-ready engineering graduates.
