Biography

Prof CHEN Yan is the professor of economics of the department of international economics and business, School of Economics, Xiamen University. Professor Chen's academic interest includes but not limited to international trade, trade in service, international business, MNCs, cross-border acquisitions and mergers, corporate finance, etc. He has published extensively in journals such as China Economic Review, Northern American Journal of Economics and Finance, NBER and leading economists web voxeu, etc. He has 5 books and more than 60 papers to his credit. He has been teaching courses such as international trade, trade in service, international business management, corporate finance, doing business in China, business and economy of China, principles of management, Macroeconomics, etc. He was awarded national and provincial "excellence teaching achievement". Professor Chen served as visiting fellow in Yale University, Southern Illinois University, the University of Warwick. He also taught in Southern Illinois University, University of Malta, Palacky University in Czech Republic. Since 2017, he was frequently seconded to XMUM (Xiamen University, Malaysia campus) for teaching-cum-administration. He serves as dean of SEM (School of Economics and Management), XMUM. He is also a regular lecturer of "United Nations Capacity Building Program of Developing Countries".

Educational Background

Prof Chen Yan studied in the United States and worked as a visiting scholar in Southern Illinois University (USA) as well as Yale University (USA) from 2001 to 2002. He got his PhD in Department of economics, Xiamen University which profession in "History of economic thought" in the year of 2007

Working Experience

During his stay at the University of Southern Illinois from the year of 2001 to 2002, he gave a series of lectures on "transformation economics" for the business school students. In March 2004, he was invited to be a lecturer in United States. He worked as a visiting fellow in the Department of economics for University of Warwick (UK) from the year of 2009 to 2010. He has also been invited to give lectures in the school of economics and management accounting (FEMA) of the University of Malta annually started from the year of 2012. He provides lectures from November 2015 until February 2016 in Czech Republic.

Start from the year of 2017, he was frequently appointed to be a seconded lecturer in Xiamen  University Malaysia (XMUM) and concurrently as the dean of School of Economics and Management.
