Dr Sun Xia’s Guest Lecture about “Growing with China’s Reform: Experience of Doing Business Inside and Outside China”

Dr Sun was invited by the School of Economics and Management, Xiamen University Malaysia to give a guest lecture for the course “Business and the Economy of China” under Prof Wang PeiMing on 8 May 2023. She shared her personal experience of doing business both domestically and internationally since China began its economic reform. In her talk, Dr Sun discussed how to improve individual abilities in a constantly changing environment, and seize various opportunities with an international perspective. Dr Sun also shared the experience and the insight of doing business that she has gained from running various business ventures over the past several decades. Especially, this talk helped students to understand the impact of China's economic reform on business both domestically and internationally, as well as the benefits and development of individuals in the process of China’s economic reform and opening up.

Dr Sun holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a Master's degree in Business Administration from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, and a PhD in Management. She also has postdoctoral experience in finance. She is a well-known entrepreneur and author. As an entrepreneur, Dr Sun has managed business in the oil and gas extraction industry for many years, with experience of investing and operating many oil fields both domestically and internationally, as well as successfully listing them on stock exchanges. Currently, her business focuses on industrial sectors such as technology and education in Singapore.
As an author (with the name of Ling Dang), Dr Sun is a member of the China’s Authors Association and she has the experience of working as a professional contract author. Dr Sun has published 13 literature works. She has received many awards for her works, including the Hebei Provincial Government Award, first prize in the China Petroleum Culture Competition, and the Chinese Iron Man Literature Award. Dr Sun is an example of the perfect integration of entrepreneur and author.
