Dr. Ong Wee Jun Receives Prestigious Merdeka Award Grant
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Assistant Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering on receiving the prestigious Merdeka Award Grant for International Attachment, which allows him to pursue a short term collaborative programme at a globally renowned host institution for three (3) months. Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and Royal Patron of the Merdeka Award Trust, His Majesty Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, presented the Grant certificate to Dr. Ong and two other recipients on 3 December 2018 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
Dr. Ong Wee Jun Receives Young Researcher Award from IChemE Malaysia
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Assistant Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun on receiving the Young Researcher Award from the Institute of Chemical Engineering (IChemE), Malaysia. The IChemE, headquartered in United Kingdom, established the annual awards since year 1994 to celebrate excellence and achievement in chemical, biochemical, and process industries. Her Royal Highness Queen of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim, a chemical engineer herself, presented Dr. Ong with a trophy and a certificate on 15 October 2018.
Dr. Ong Wee Jun Chosen Among Top 25 Global Green Talents
The Office of Research and Innovation would like to congratulate Assist. Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering for receiving the 2018 Green Talents Award, an accolade under the patronage of German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to honour young researchers and scientists for their outstanding achievements and contributions to making their communities, countries and societies more sustainable.
Dr. Ong Wee Jun Publishes in Top Journal, Chem (Impact Factor 14)
The Office of Research and Innovation congratulates Assistant Professor Dr. Ong Wee Jun on his role as the joint first and corresponding author of a paper entitled “Surface and Heterointerface Engineering of 2D MXenes and Their Nanocomposites: Insights into Electro- and Photocatalysis.” The paper was published on 27th September 2018 in Chem, which is one of the world’s top-ranked multidisciplinary chemistry journals (rank: 9/171). Chem, that has the latest impact factor of 14.104, is a sister journal to Cell Press’s flagship journal, Cell.

NESE gathering brings staff and students together
The New Energy Science and Engineering (NESE) programme in XMUM has amassed more than 100 students over several intakes. On the evening of Dec 15, 2017, a gathering brought the NESE staff and students together, providing students a platform to learn about the research interests of the lecturers, in preparation for their final year projects.
