Performs varied tasks in providing library service to patrons under the supervision of the Librarian. Responsibilities include work primarily in the technical services areas and may include work in other areas of the library as needed. The position requires a high level of skill in customer service, daily work with the patron and also the ability to do detail work such as record keeping and research.

Role and Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to library programs through tasks such as item check-in, item sorting, and the organization of library materials as required.
  • Provide support at the library circulation counter.
  • Support in the creation of posters, brochures, and other communication materials for
    the library.
  • Student guidance and recommendations to readers when assigned.
  • Assist patrons with general IT and library service inquiries and guide them in the use of library services and equipment.
  • Participate in book processing activities.
  • Undertake light cleaning, dusting, and tidying of library spaces and materials, including shelving items when necessary.
  • Help maintain the library's tidy and orderly appearance and ensure the cleanliness of library materials, including book sanitization.
  • Support collection management by shelving, conducting shelf audits, arranging theses, and creating displays or decorations for special occasions.
  • Write brief synopses for selected books.
  • Assist patrons in accessing and utilizing both physical and online library resources.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Ability to use logic and or science to solve problems with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to listen and provide requested information in person, on the phone, and by email.
  • General knowledge of customer service methods.
  • General knowledge of the library operations, collection organization, equipment and staffing needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superior coworkers and the patron; ability to tactfully handle an array of social situation; good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant local library services and issues.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions associated with library services.
  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply computing applications.
  • General knowledge of library organization and classification principles.
