XMUM Students Celebrate 2023 Chinese New Year
“The year of the tiger has ended, and the year of rabbit has begun with the sparkles of fireworks.”
To greet the approaching Chinese New Year and promote cultural diversity, Xiamen University Malaysia held the 2023 Spring Festival Celebration on 13 January 2023, receiving enthusiastic responses from the students.
The first celebration event - the calligraphy Competition organized by the Student Council of Chinese Studies Department and Nanqiang Calligraphy Society - started at 2.30 pm, inviting participants to write spring couplets in whatever style of calligraphy. Xiao Shuxin (Finance Programme), Chan Yi Fen (Electrical and Electronics Engineering Programme) and Mok Yong An (Traditional Chinese Medicine) won the top three awards.

The theme of the celebration event is “卯兔衔春来”, meaning that the rabbit, which is the fourth in the Chinese zodiac, brings spring and represents the arrival of the new year.
Starting from 5 pm, performances of Wushu, Chinese traditional dance, calligraphy and singing kickstarted the celebration. There were also game booths, craft booths and exhibition booths, allowing everyone to experience the festival atmosphere.
