The Nature Index is a recognised database that tracks institutional and national contributions to research published in a curated list of high-quality journals in the natural and health sciences.
These journals are selected based on a survey of active researchers, who identified the publications where they would most prefer to publish their best work, emphasising content quality and relevance over citation metrics such as Journal Impact Factor.
The selection process, conducted independently of Springer Nature and Nature Portfolio, was last updated in 2023 to include leading health science journals. While around 20% of the selected journals are published by Springer Nature, the full list represents a broad consensus on the most influential journals across both multidisciplinary and specialised scientific fields.
