New Students Begin University Life with "A New Start"

Published on February 28, 2019

On 23 and 24 February 2019, a new batch of about 200 students joined Xiamen University Malaysia and attended the orientation themed “A New Start”, a chance for them to meet new friends and gain a first taste of university life.

The orientation began on 23 February with a brief welcome session, followed by a series of ice-breaking activities and information sharing sessions. Divided into several teams and ushered into different classrooms, the students forged bonds and familiarized themselves with the campus through well-designed games and activities. They were also offered a campus tour interspersed with games under the guidance of team facilitators, allowing them to know more of the university.

The students were then briefed by various administrative departments on 24 February, regarding duties of different offices, services provided by the university and other relevant information they may need in future life. The event proceeded to an academic briefing which lasted for three hours in the afternoon, during which students were introduced to rules and regulations on academic affairs and met academic staff of their respective programme.

To boost new students’ enthusiasm for stepping into a new life stage, the orientation ended with a well-prepared closing ceremony featuring a series of impressive performances given by Diabolo, Dance and Music clubs, as well as a choreographed dance from the committees of the orientation.

Up till now, XMUM has a total enrollment of 4,040, including international students from 24 different countries and regions. The first batch of XMUM students have just completed their study earlier this year, while the student population is expected to reach 5,000 by the end of this September.
