Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) Badminton Club got off to an eventful 2018 with the organization of a friendly badminton tournament against players from Heriot-Watt University Malaysia (HWUM). 

Held on the evening of Jan 29, 2018, this friendly provided a platform for the 27 players from both universities to interact and improve their skills. This opportunity proved invaluable in light of the upcoming Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (SUKIPT) championship.

The tournament lasted over 3 hours, during which 13 matches were played. Due to the distribution of players, some matches involved female players playing against male opponents. However, this was not considered a setback. “It is a good practice, especially for our girls, because they have tried their best to play against taller, bigger, and stronger opponents. We hope that we have more chances to play with outsiders to improve our performance,” said Mr. Ong Cheng Seang, the Vice President of the organizing committee.

In the end, XMUM snatched a narrow victory with 5 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses. Given the enthusiastic response from all the parties involved, one can look forward to more of such events in the future.
