IEM Engineering Quest 2025 Brings Together Students from Across Malaysia

Published on July 25, 2025

The inaugural IEM Engineering Quest 2025, held from 21 to 22 June, brought together around 60 engineering students from universities across Malaysia for a two-day intervarsity competition focused on 'Smart City' and 'Project Management'.

Jointly organized by the IEM student sections of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and the IEM Young Engineers Section (YES), the event was hosted across two campuses - UTAR Sungai Long and XMUM.

Activities included research presentations, mock tendering challenges, and an interactive quiz session by IBM Malaysia. These tasks aimed to enhance participants' critical thinking, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving skills.

Day 1, held at UTAR, focused on student research presentations and industry sharing sessions. Day 2, hosted at XMUM, featured a mock tendering challenge simulating real-world project bids, with finalists presenting their proposals to a panel of judges.

Participating universities included UTAR, XMUM, UKM, University of Malaya, Monash University Malaysia, Sunway University, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Asia Pacific University, and SEGi University.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony at XMUM, with remarks from university representatives and industry judges, and awards presented to outstanding teams.

Support from both hosting universities and sponsors - Printcious Gifts and IBM Malaysia - contributed to the success of the event.

Established in 2023, the IEM-XMUM Student Section comprises students from the Chemical Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering programmes and aims to promote academic and professional development within the XMUM community.
