Two XMUM Scholars Among 2025 Most Cited Chinese Researchers

On 30 January, Elsevier officially released the 2025 list of Most Cited Chinese Researchers. Prof. Ong Wee Jun from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering and Professor Chen Huanyang from the Department of Physics (seconded from XMU) at Xiamen University Malaysia were both selected.

The Elsevier Most Cited Chinese Researchers list is based on data from Scopus, one of the world's leading citation and abstract databases, and applies evaluation methods developed by ShanghaiRanking to assess researchers’ academic performance. First launched in 2015, the list has now been published for the twelfth time and has attracted widespread attention from both academia and the media. In 2025, a total of 6,310 researchers from 543 universities, enterprises, and research institutions were included, covering 10 academic fields and 83 first-level disciplines.

Prof. Ong Wee Jun was recognized in the field of Chemistry, with 184 publications indexed, 25,420 citations, and an H-index of 73. Prof. Chen Huanyang was recognized in the field of Physics, with 325 publications indexed, 12,763 citations, and an H-index of 49.

Prof. Ong Wee Jun currently serves as Assistant Dean of the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering and Director of the Centre of Excellence for Nanomaterials Energy and Catalysis Technology (CONNECT). His research focuses on the application of advanced nanomaterials in catalysis and energy-related fields.
