About the Programme

Xiamen University (XMU) started marine studies 100 years ago and is recognised as the cradle of China’s marine studies. Its Department of Oceanography, established in 1946, is the first of its kind in China, while its College of Ocean and Earth Sciences has developed into one of China’s best marine research institutions with a state key discipline – marine science. It has a faculty that includes two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a number of experts involved in “Thousand Talents Plan”, China’s Recruitment Programme of Global Experts. The college boasts excellent research platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science, State-Province Joint Engineering Laboratory of Marine Bioproducts and Technology, outstanding educational centres such as the National Experimental Centre for Education, as well as an advanced general-purpose research vessel equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instruments, allowing interdisciplinary oceanographic cruises in international waters.

The China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences (CAMS), based in Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), receives strong support from XMU and the China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund, for teaching and research. The Master of Science in Marine Biotechnology programme is hosted at CAMS, and aims to train future professionals who are able to facilitate the development of marine biotechnology in the ASEAN region and contribute to the interactions related to marine science among China, the ASEAN countries, and the whole international community. Kindly refer to the CAMS website (https://www.xmu.edu.my/CAMS/list.htm) for the latest information.
