About the Programme
The Department of English Language and Literature was founded over a century ago in 1923 and has earned recognition for excellence at both national and provincial levels in China for its "premium courses. In 2008, the teaching staff of the core curriculum courses in the English programme were honored as an "Outstanding Teaching Team of Fujian Province"..
The programme of Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature at Xiamen University Malaysia started to recruit students in September 2020. The programme aims to equip students with a solid language foundation, a wide range of knowledge, an international outlook, and an adaptable attitude to work. Students receive rigorous training in listening, speaking, reading, writing and intercultural communication. They learn the fundamental theories in English language and literature and become acquainted with the history and culture of English-speaking countries, as well as linguistics, second language acquisition and translation. They learn how to appreciate and analyse literary works and a variety of language phenomena. Courses in French and German are also available to broaden the students' linguistic and cultural horizons.
In 2024, the first students graduated from this programme. 78% of them went on to further study at prestigious institutions such as Oxford University, London's Global University, the National University of Singapore, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Manchester, the University of Hong Kong and Beijing Foreign University. The rest of the first cohort went straight into employment in Malaysia and China.

Entry Requirements
Qualification | Requirement |
STPM | A pass in STPM with at least a Grade C (GP 2.0) in any 2 subjects or its equivalent and a credit in English |
A-Level | A pass in A-Level with at least a Grade D in any 2 subjects AND a credit in English in SPM or its equivalent |
UEC | A pass in UEC with a minimum Grade B in any 5 subjects including English |
Foundation / Matriculation | A pass in Foundation/Matriculation with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 or its equivalent and a credit in English in SPM or its equivalent |
Diploma (in a relevant field) | A Diploma (Level 4, MQF) with a minimum CGOA of 2.0 or its equivalent and a credit in English in SPM or its equivalent |
AND | IELTS - at least Band 6; or MUET - at least Band 4; or its equivalent |
