CAMS Students Participate in NUS Science Summer Institute 2025
Three students from the China-ASEAN College of Marine Sciences (CAMS), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) - Chow Shi Yin, Ong Yi Xiang, and Vivian Foong Chee Yan - took part in the NUS Science Summer Institute (SSI) 2025, held from 8 to 17 July at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Hosted by the NUS Faculty of Science, the programme gathered over 270 participants from across the Asia-Pacific, including delegates from Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. It featured masterclasses, thematic workshops, plenary lectures, and visits to research facilities such as the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM) and the Chemical, Molecular and Materials Analysis Centre (CMMAC).
"The SSI reminded me why I chose science - to explore, connect, and create solutions," said Vivian Foong, reflecting on her experience during the programme.
Ong Yi Xiang noted that the programme broadened his perspective on the challenges facing the scientific community, particularly in the field of chemistry.
In addition to academic activities, SSI 2025 encouraged cultural exchange and international networking through group discussions, collaborative projects, and guided tours. “Grateful for the knowledge, laughs, and friendships made. These memories will stay with me,” said Chow Shi Yin.
Their participation was sponsored by Prof. Dr. Lan Weiguang, founder of Suntar Group, in support of youth development and scientific education.
