Dr. Tan Jian Ping Showcases XMUM Project at MOSTI R&D&C&I Convention
Dr. Tan Jian Ping, an Assistant Professor from XMUM School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, showcased his project at the R&D&C&I Convention on 15 November 2023.
Organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Malaysia, this event is a national platform for sharing knowledge, information, expertise, and experience in the fields of Research and Development (R&D), Commercialization (C) and Innovation (I), to increase sustainable economic growth towards developed countries.
Dr. Tan Jian Ping is the only XMUM delegate who was invited to this convention.

Direct MOSTI-Funded XMUM Biobased 1,3-Propanediol Production
Directly funded by MOSTI, Dr. Tan Jian Ping’s project aims to create a fluidized bed bioreactor prototype to cater to high cell density immobilizer for high productivity of 1,3-propanediol. The patented design has been fabricated and installed at XMUM for ongoing investigation by his team.
For the purpose of boosting the local bioeconomy in Malaysia, the availability of this precursor is important to unlock various business opportunities in the Southeast Asia region and to strengthen the local palm-oleo and palm-biodiesel industry by converting its crude glycerine waste into a value-added product.
This technology is transferable to other biochemical processes to utilize local agricultural wastes in value-added biochemical production for improved productivity.
