Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) has successfully organized the first XMUM Cup Physics Competition for Secondary School in November 2020.

With the purposes of stimulating Malaysian students’ curiosity in fundamental science and arousing their interests in physics, the Competition has attracted 526 participants from 30 schools across the country.

The Competition integrates numerical calculation with interactive visual experiments, which ask students to collect data with the visual apparatus so as to obtain the correct answer.

Tan Boon See and Leelakunwet Kantaphat, both from Chung Ling Private High School, won the first and second place. Third prize winner is Chiam Wen Kang from Hin Hua High School, while Henry Ngieng Si Sung and Bryan Lu We-Zhern from Sarawak Chung Hua Middle School No.1 ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. Chung Ling Private High School emerged as the winner of the Group Category for its students’ overall performance.

Launched in September 2020, the Bachelor of Science in Physics (Honours) Programme at XMUM encompasses various research areas, such as condensed matter physics, statistical physics and biophysics, while featuring cross-disciplinary collaboration.
