Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon and NESE Students Publish in Energy and Buildings

2024-07-02

The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Ng Wai Lam and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin from the Department of New Energy Science and Engineering, School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, for their recent research article published in Energy and Buildings, an SCI Q1 journal with the latest impact factor of 6.7.

Ng Wai Lam is pursuing her master’s degree in New Energy Science and Engineering at Xiamen University Malaysia.

In the paper Predicting life cycle carbon emission of green office buildings via an integrated LCA-MLR framework”, researchers assessed the life cycle carbon emissions of green-certified office buildings in Malaysia and developed predictive models using an integrated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) framework. The study focused on embodied carbon and operational carbon to comprehensively understand the carbon footprint throughout a building’s life cycle. The work integrates carbon parameters to enhance prediction accuracy, revealing that cement and steel are the primary contributors to embodied emissions. It also establishes a new Green Office Building Carbon Rating to benchmark the carbon performance of new green buildings against existing ones in Malaysia.

Ng Wai Lam: “I am deeply grateful to my supervisor, Dr. Vincent Woon Kok Sin, for the invaluable guidance and unwavering support to my postgraduate study. His mentorship has been instrumental in my growth and success. I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to Dr. Azlin and Dr. Nofri for their insightful comments and constructive feedback, which significantly enhanced the quality and outcomes of my research.”

Ts. Dr. Vincent Woon is an Associate Professor and Head of the PhD Programme at XMUM New Energy Science and Engineering Department. With a passion for sustainability, his research focuses on carbon footprint analysis, life cycle assessment, solid waste recycling, green township and building development, as well as AI-predictive analytics and optimization in climate change. He is an editorial board member and managing guest editor for several WoS and Scopus-indexed journals.
