Dr. Yvonne Choo Shuen Lann Receives Thieme Chemistry Journals Award 2024

2024-01-23

The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulates Asst. Prof. ChM Dr. Yvonne Choo Shuen Lann from School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia for receiving Thieme Chemistry Journals Award 2024.

The Thieme Chemistry Journals Award is presented every year to up-and-coming researchers worldwide who are in the early stages of their independent academic career as assistant or junior professors. The awardees are selected exclusively by the editorial board members of SYNTHESIS, SYNLETT, and SYNFACTS who constantly watch out for promising, young individuals working in chemical synthesis and catalysis or closely related areas of organic chemistry. It aims to send a sign of recognition and career encouragement to the new generation of organic chemists.

This year, Dr. Yvonne Choo Shuen Lannis the only recipient from Malaysia among more than 100 recipients from all over the world.

Dr. Yvonne Choo Shuen Lann is an organic chemist with experience in synthesising photoactive organic molecules and polymers. Her research interests revolve around designing and developing new smart materials (stimuli responsive/shape-memory polymers) for use in, but not limited to, 4D-Printing and energy applications. In addition, she is passionate about chemistry education (ChemEd), science outreach and has been an element awardee (Bohrium) in the IUPAC Periodic Table of Younger Chemists. She currently serves the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM) as a council member (2023-2026), the International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN) as a Malaysian Delegate and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) as an Associate Member of CHEMRAWN (2024-2027) and an SPT-SPEd Sub-Committee Member of the Polymer Division.
