Biography
Looi Siew Teip studied English literature at Universiti Malaya and subsequently completed MA degrees in medieval English literature and in international relations at the University of Leeds, UK. He was a journalist and music critic in Singapore before starting a long career as a lecturer in English literature at Universiti Malaya. Besides medieval English poetry, he also has expertise in English metrics and versification and English phonetics and phonology. He additionally also has expertise in western music theory, history and performance practice. He plays the guqin and currently also plays the erhu in a Chinese orchestra.
Research Interest
Anglophone and Sinophone Malaysian poetry, the phonology of Malaysian English, Temuan language and folklore
