Biography

Associate Prof Dr Zulkifly bin Abbas was a faculty member of University Putra Malaysia from 1987 to 2022. He was the Head of the Department of Physics from 2016 to 2019 where he was instrumental in the development of Master of Materials Physics program. He joined Xiamen University Malaysia in March 2023. Dr. Zulkifly was appointed by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation(MOSTI) as his official Science Advisor on September 1, 2021. His involvement with MOSTI started since 2002 where he was a regular panel interviewer for scholarships, training and research grants.

Dr. Zulkifly is a strong advocate of smart Industry-Academia-Government collaboration to promote innovation and technology growth. Numerous industry engagements were held to promote collaboration between researchers and the industry. Dr. Zulkifly was the Project leader of 11 Research grants 14 Exhibition Awards. He has two patents: one granted and one pending. He was the main supervisor for 24 PhD and 36 MSc graduates. He was also the external examiner for 9 PhD and 20 MSc theses. He has published more than 242 research articles with 170 journal papers as main researcher. He has been a reviewer/referee for more than 174 research articles published by international institutions (IEEE,ISA,IOP and AIP). He has been an assessor for MOSTI’s Grant Projects since 2002. He was appointed as Session Organizer 3A6: Electromagnetic Characterization of Composite Materials at the Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium(PIERS) in Singapore in 2017, He was also a Technical Committee for several international conferences and symposiums.

Dr. Zulkifly is an Executive Committee member of the IET’s RF and Microwave Technical Network (TN). Dr. Zulkify Abbas was the lead consultant for TV AlHijrah negotiation with MCMC for frequency spectrum allocation in 2009. In 2010, he was appointed as the lead consultant for CTRM Composites Engineering Sdn Bhd to characterize electromagnetic properties of radome for its European customer. He was a panel member of The Safety Advisory Forum of Experts (SAFE) for the Mobile Communication Industry in 2002. He organized training program for STRIDE and Agensi Angkasa Negara scientists in graphical dataflow programming for automated test, measurement, data analysis and reporting in year 2002 and 2004, respectively. He was the Technical Adviser for TNK Electronics Mfg. Sdn. Bhd factory audit by Sony International(S’pore) Ltd and Sony(M) Factory in 1999. He also served as the Technical Evaluator for Tender for Supply, Delivery and Testing of Radar Equipment 2007, Pusat Remote Sensing Negara. He was also a consultant to a company manufacturing high frequency microwave substrates. He has been providing expert and professional services in electromagnetic characterization of materials at microwave frequencies for many companies and Universities since 1987.
