Biography
Assistant Professor Ir. Dr. Kamaruddin Abdul Ghani was a Faculty member of the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) from 2008 to 2023. He joined Xiamen University Malaysia in February 2026. At the Faculty of Engineering, UPNM, Ir Dr Kamaruddin was in charge of the Radar Laboratory, where he oversaw the radar trainer system and taught an elective course on Radar Systems to undergraduates. He was involved in the establishment of the Cybersecurity Centre in 2014, where he developed the Electronic Warfare (EW) Lab and Command & Control Lab for teaching and research in Cybersecurity and EW. He conducted specialised short courses in EW for military officers on Radar Signal Analysis, COMINT, ELINT, drone detection, and jamming. He was appointed to the Executive Committee of the MySET Interest Group on Malaysia Radar and Navigation (MyRAN) for the year 2018-2019.
Ir Dr Kamaruddin is an ex-military officer who served for 15 years in the Royal Signal Regiment and Malaysian Armed Forces Defence Intelligence before retiring as a Major. He had more than 10 years of field experience in EW operations, including signal interceptions, Signal Intelligence (COMINT & ELINT), and Radar Signal Analysis. After leaving the service, Ir Dr Kamaruddin joined the Defence Intelligence R&D Centre as a research engineer for defence systems, where he was responsible for the Doppler tracking radar system and trajectory data analysis.
During his active service, Ir Dr Kamaruddin was involved in a couple of the transfer of technology (ToT) programs. In 1995, he was involved in the development, integration, testing, and commissioning of the Malaysian Armed Forces' first semi-mobile ELINT system in Pretoria, South Africa. In 1997, he was involved in the development of TiungSAT-1 microsatellite at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd, UK, where he was responsible for the assembly, integration, and testing of the RF systems. As a Professional Engineer and academician, Ir Dr Kamaruddin is actively involved in EAC and ETAC accreditations as an evaluation panel.
