Published on February 28, 2025

On 27 February 2025, a delegation from the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) visited the Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to discuss potential collaborations, focusing on the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with modern medical education.

The XMUM delegation, led by Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Wong Lai Wan, Registrar of Xiamen University Malaysia, included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kim Yun Jin, Head of the TCM Postgraduate Programme, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Chep Lee Lu Siang, Head of the TCM Undergraduate Programme. They were welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ruslinda Mustafar, Deputy Dean (Industry and Community Partnership) of the UKM Faculty of Medicine, and other key faculty members.

The primary goal of the visit was to discuss the possibility of UKM supporting the teaching of Traditional Chinese Medicine courses as part of a broader collaboration between the two institutions. This partnership could involve joint curriculum development, the sharing of teaching resources, and opportunities for cross-disciplinary training, with the aim of providing a more comprehensive approach to medical education.

In addition, the delegation and UKM faculty explored potential research collaborations, particularly in the areas of integrative medicine and chronic disease management, where both institutions could combine their expertise to address current public health challenges. The possibility of jointly supervising postgraduate students in TCM and integrative medicine was also discussed, providing students the opportunity to benefit from the guidance of faculty members from both universities.

The visit marked an important step in strengthening the academic relationship between XMUM's School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and UKM's Faculty of Medicine. Both institutions expressed optimism about future collaborations and committed to maintaining open communication to explore additional opportunities for cooperation.
