On 23 August 2025, 25 students from the 2021/04 intake of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (STCM), Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), arrived in Kunming, Yunnan, China, to begin a 28-week clinical internship at the First Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine (Yunnan Provincial Hospital of TCM).

This is the first time XMUM students have undertaken long-term clinical training in Yunnan following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between XMUM and Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in October 2024. The initiative marks an important step in implementing the collaboration between the two institutions.

The student group was led by Dr. Chep Lee Lu Siang, Head of Programme for the Bachelor of Medicine in TCM at XMUM. On 24 August, a welcoming session was held at the hospital, attended by Mr. Sun Yonglin, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Prof. Zhao Rong, President of the Hospital, and clinical department heads. They welcomed the students and expressed their hopes that the internship would further strengthen academic and professional ties between the two universities.

During the session, students were encouraged to make full use of the opportunity, integrate classroom knowledge with clinical practice, and approach their training with professionalism and respect for both mentors and patients.

Through the internship, students will gain firsthand experience in clinical diagnosis and treatment at one of Yunnan’s leading hospitals for Traditional Chinese Medicine. The programme provides a valuable opportunity for professional growth while deepening the partnership between XMUM and Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
