TCM Students Explore Modern IVF Technologies

Published on December 23, 2025

On 19 December 2025, the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), led by Dr. Chep Lee Lu Siang, organized an educational field trip to Alpha IVF & Women’s Specialists. A total of 20 students participated in the visit, which aimed to introduce modern reproductive technologies and enhance students’ understanding of fertility treatment.

During the visit, students toured the IVF centre and were introduced to its facilities and operations. Dr. Tan Chong Seong, Consultant O&G and Fertility Specialist, delivered an informative briefing on the basic IVF process, including laboratory procedures and embryo monitoring.

Zhang Yaxing, a Yunnan mobility programme student, shared that the experience left a strong impression on him. He noted the stark contrast between modern reproductive medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, describing the observation of early embryo development as "truly astonishing" and reflective of a different way of understanding the origin of life.

Ng Ziyu, from the 2022/02 intake, said the visit deepened her understanding of IVF services in Malaysia. She highlighted the advanced technologies and professional standards involved, adding that the experience broadened her career perspective and inspired her to consider future collaboration between TCM and IVF centres to provide more holistic fertility care.
