School of Traditional Chinese Medicine Strengthens Ties with Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals

On 24 September 2024, a delegation from the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Xiamen University Malaysia, visited Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine and its affiliated hospitals in China. Led by Prof. Chen Shaodong, Dean of the School, along with Dr. Kim Yun Jin, Head of Programme, and Dr. Chep Lee Lu Siang, Clinical Internship Coordinator, the visit aimed to enhance collaboration between the two institutions in Chinese medicine education, research, and clinical internships.

The delegation's first stop was the First Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine, where they toured several specialized departments, including Dermatology, the Renowned Physicians’ Hall, and Acupuncture. Following the tour, a meeting was chaired by Zhao Rong, Vice President of the hospital, where both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on educational cooperation, research collaboration, and clinical internship arrangements. The meeting explored future opportunities to internationalize Chinese medicine, and it concluded with a group photo to commemorate the event.

Next, at Yunnan University Affiliated Hospital, discussions focused on potential teaching collaborations, particularly regarding the possibility of XMUM's TCM students undertaking internships in the hospital’s Western medicine departments. Both sides agreed to maintain open communication and explore further models of cooperation in the future.

The final stop of the visit was Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine’s Chenggong Campus. During a welcome ceremony, Vice President Yu Jie extended a warm welcome to the delegation, expressing the university’s enthusiasm to strengthen ties in the internationalization of TCM. The two parties held fruitful discussions on TCM education, research collaboration, and student exchange programs.

The visit by the faculty team from XMUM has reinforced the growing partnership with Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine and its affiliated hospitals. The productive exchanges in Chinese medicine education, research, and clinical internships have laid a strong foundation for future collaboration. This partnership is expected to promote the global development of Chinese medicine while contributing to the preservation and innovation of the field.
