“Health Consultation with Eminent Traditional Chinese Medicine Experts” in XMUM

SEPANG, 4 May: Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) organized a “Health Consultation with Eminent Traditional Chinese Medicine Experts” on the 4th of May 2016 (Wednesday) located at the multipurpose hall of XMUM.   
   
It was XMUM’s honour and priviledge to have invited the following TCM experts who offered the public face-to-face consultations, and provided Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pulse diagnosis, acupuncture and cupping treatments. They were - Professor Qian Linchao, Master Supervisor and Head of Traditional Chinese Medicine Department of Xiamen University China; Professor Wen Lei, Ph.D. Supervisor and Deputy Head of Traditional Chinese Medicine Department of Xiamen University China; Professor Qian Xiaoyan, Deputy Director of Xiamen University TCM Foreign Education Centre; Professor Zhu Hongmei and Dr Chen Shaodong, both Master Supervisor from Xiamen University China; Professor Zhou Haihong; Lai Khoy Khiang, Dean of Penang Chinese Physician & Druggist Association; Lim Lip Soo, Associate Dean of Penang Chinese Physician & Druggist Association, and Tan Sook Ngon, a medical practitioner from Penang Chinese Physician & Druggist Association.

This event received encouraging response and attracted many people from outstation and other Malaysian ethnic groups who came for medical consultation, acupuncture and cupping treatments from our TCM experts. Many of them were happy about this health consultation since it has helped the public to understand more about their current health status.

In this consultation, the main consulted areas included irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, insomnia, rheumatic and senile osteoarthritis, fatigue as well as post-surgery healthcare. A visitor who had received acupuncture treatment stated that the pain had literally eased after the insertion of needles into the acupuncture points in the specific area of discomfort.

“After receiving news that XMUM is going to organize this particular health consultation with eminent TCM experts, I immediately proceeded to attend this event, with the hope to gain knowledge about the appropriate ways of post tumour removal surgery healthcare. For this, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to XMUM for this rare opportunity,” a senior citizen from Macau stated.

Apart from that, the pioneer group of TCM students of XMUM also participated in organizing this event as well as assisted the TCM experts during consultation. TCM students of XMUM stated that this health consultation has benefitted them in various ways, and even contributed to their future study of major courses in TCM.

Tan Jie Ying, expressed that she was blessed to have been enrolled in the TCM course of XMUM as it has given her opportunities to work closely with the TCM experts and learn from them. “Under the guidance of one of the TCM experts, I’ve come to know some common gynaecological diseases and realized the importance of the four TCM diagnostic methods: inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiring and palpation during clinical practices as well”, she added.

Professor Qian Linchao, Master Supervisor and Head of TCM Department of Xiamen University China has also expressed his satisfaction on the success of this event, and is considering organizing similar events in the future in order to spread TCM knowledge to the public, and at the same time, encourage the public to discover the TCM field.
