Prof. Ong Wee Jun and Team Publish in Materials Reports: Energy

Published on December 29, 2025

The Research and Postgraduate Centre congratulate Tan Xin Quan, Loh Jian Yiing, Prof. Dr. Ong Wee Jun from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering and the Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT) on their recent publication in Materials Reports: Energy, a Q1 journal with a current impact factor of 13.8.

This article has also been selected as the Front Cover Art of Materials Reports: Energy, Volume 5, Issue 4 (November 2025), a remarkable achievement that reflects the quality and impact of their research.

The research article, titled "Two-in-one redox photocatalysis: Cooperative hydrogen evolution and benzaldehyde production via 2D MoS2 cocatalyst-loaded hydrangea-like Zn3In2S6", presents an advances work of two-in-one redox photocatalysis through the implementation of MoS2 cocatalyst-loaded Zn3In2S6 hybrids, aiming for improved cooperative production of hydrogen and benzaldehyde.

The article is first-authored by Master student Tan Xin Quan and co-authored by PHD student Loh Jian Yiing, both under the supervision of Prof. Ong Wee Jun. The research also includes collaborative contributions from Prof. Dato' Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

This research project received funding support from the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia under the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS); PETRONAS-Academia Collaboration Dialogue through the PETRONAS Research Sdn. Bhd. (PRSB); the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Malaysia under the Strategic Research Fund (SRF); Agilent Technologies Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. for their contribution through chromatography; the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Foundation; the financial support from the State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces, Xiamen University; the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia. Additional support was provided by the Xiamen University Malaysia Investigatorship Grant and Xiamen University Malaysia Research Fund.
