Dr. Tan Jian Ping Appointed National Bioenergy Advisor by SEDA Malaysia
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Jian Ping from the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM), has been appointed Technical Advisor on Bioenergy to the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia.

The appointment was made by SEDA Chief Executive Officer Dato' Hamzah Hussin. Dr. Tan Jian Ping is one of three technical advisors selected nationally across different fields and will provide expert input on planning and development related to Malaysia’s bioenergy initiatives.
"I am honoured to serve the Bioenergy Technical Advisor to SEDA," said Dr. Tan Jian Ping. "Bioenergy holds tremendous potential for Malaysia's sustainable future, not only as a renewable energy source but also as a pathway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote circular economy principles."
Dr. Tan Jian Ping currently serves as Director of XMUM's Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Technologies for Agricultural Advancement and a Zero-Waste Economy (STARGAZE). His research focuses on bioenergy systems, biomass utilisation, and sustainable agriculture. Between 2020 and 2024, he received multiple research grants from the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Assisting Dr. Tan Jian Ping in this engagement is PhD student Mr. Malvin, who is developing spatial tools to support site assessments for bioenergy applications.
"This engagement allows us to translate our academic research into real-world impact," said Malvin.
SEDA Malaysia is a statutory body under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), responsible for implementing renewable energy and energy efficiency programmes.

His research focuses on sustainable agritechnology, biotechnology, and low-carbon solutions. Nationally, he serves as Secretary of the Malaysian Academic Research on Palm Oil Sustainability (ARPOS), a consortium dedicated to promoting sustainability in the palm oil sector. He was elected to the ARPOS committee in 2022 and assumed the role of Secretary in 2025. He is also a member of the Bio-Alliance Stability and Sustainability Cluster under Malaysia’s National Food Security Policy. |
